ANALYTICAL CHEMIST I

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs routine analytical laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process materials, and
finished product samples in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and test
methods. Performs laboratory work using prescribed analytical techniques, follows good documentation practices (GDP)
and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analytical Chemist I
  • Receives samples into the laboratory and delegates them to the different areas of the lab for analysis.
  • Performs basic, routine and more advanced analyses of incoming raw materials, work in progress, finished goods,
    and other materials as required, e.g. wet bench analyses and titrations.
  • Relies on instruction and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrates ability to discern when results from routine analyses are aberrant.
  • Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot routine analysis problems.
  • Should be certified in at least one of the following methods of analysis: ICP (OES and MS), GC, HPLC, and
    LC-MS.
  • Works under general supervision using qualitative and quantitative techniques.

  • Follows laboratory procedures; attention to detail is essential.
  • Completes and maintain all required documentation for procedures, recording work, and results.
  • Demonstrates the ability to reproduce results accurately and consistently.
  • Maintains a proper inventory of supplies.
  • Prepares solutions, samples, and reagents.
  • Performs laboratory housekeeping and cleaning duties.
  • Arrives at work as scheduled, starts work at the beginning of a shift, is on time to meetings, and completes
    assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • Interacts with coworkers and supervisors in a professional manner.
  • Responds appropriately to instruction and feedback from supervisor.
  • Follows the Standards of Conduct as outlined in the latest version of the Thorne Research Employee Handbook.
  • Become thoroughly knowledgeable of the applicable provisions of Thorne Research's Standard Operation
    Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and maintains knowledge base on an
    ongoing, timely basis as procedural changes occur without relying on management intervention or direction.
  • Promotes the Company's Mission and Values, including an accountable, innovative, and results-oriented culture

  • Seeks formal and informal performance assessments of self, including performance versus expectations and goals,
    behaviors, and leadership potential.
  • Actively participates in required training, development programs, and electives; supports colleagues, trainers, and management as appropriate with these efforts.

What You Need:
  • B.S. degree in chemistry or science-related field with a minimum of 12 hours credit in college chemistry is
    required.
  • Relevant analytical laboratory experience along with demonstrated aptitude for carrying out responsible
    technical assignments is desirable. Helpful experience includes high performance liquid chromatography
    (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy, and/or near infrared
    (NIR) spectroscopy.
