The Contractors State License Board is currently recruiting for a Supervising Special Investigator I (Non-Peace Officer) in the Enforcement of Division in the San Bernardino Investigation Center.

The position is located in San Bernardino.

Under the direction of the Supervising Special Investigator II (SSI II), the Supervising Special Investigator I (SSI I) will supervise a staff of field Investigators and office support staff in the San Bernardino Investigative Center (I/C). The I/C staff is responsible for investigating and processing consumer complaints filed against licensed and unlicensed contractors.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.

• Pursuant to California Business and Professions Code 154.3, incumbent in this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice for criminal history background clearance and be cleared before hiring.
• This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Conflict of Interest Regulations.  The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st, and within 30 days of leaving office.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Knowledge of: Investigation techniques and procedures, and directing others in the performance of investigatory work; rules of investigatory work; rules of evidence and court procedure; interviewing techniques; interpreting and applying to specific cases the provisions of the laws, rules, or regulations enforced or administered; principles and techniques of personnel management and supervision and supervising a staff of investigators.

Skill in: Planning, organizing, and directing investigations.

Ability to: Direct others in the performance of investigatory work; interpret and apply to specific cases the provisions of the laws, rules, or regulations enforced or administered; supervise a staff of investigators; dictate correspondence and prepare reports; communicate effectively; analyze situations accurately; and think and act quickly in emergencies and adopt an effective course of action.

Statement of Qualifications

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required, and applicants must include one. The SOQ is a narrative discussion prepared by the applicant describing how the applicant’s skills, knowledge, abilities, education, training, and experience, qualify them for the position. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. CSLB will not consider applicants who fail to provide an SOQ with their application. Resumes do not take place of the SOQ. When completing the SOQ, please include specific examples and explain your responses thoroughly. Your SOQ should be no longer than two (2) pages, single spaced with12 pt.
