The Position

The Student Success Coordinator will lead initiatives to enhance academic performance, personal growth, and college/career readiness for 10th-12th grade students in Explore@RC. This role involves developing and implementing student support programs, managing orientation and recruitment efforts, supporting curriculum development, providing governing board support, monitoring academic progress, and fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about education, adept at building relationships with multiple partners, and skilled in supporting K-12 students.

Key Responsibilities :

• Academic Support & Monitoring:

Alongside the Executive Director, develop, implement, and manage targeted academic intervention programs for high school students.

Regularly track student progress, identify challenges, and collaborate with faculty, high school teachers, and counselors to create individually personalized academic plans.

Organize tutoring sessions, study groups, and supplemental instruction programs.

• Advisory and Counseling:

In collaboration with the Executive Director, provide one-on-one guidance and mentorship to support student academic and personal development.

Assist students in setting and achieving academic, personal, and career-related goals.

Facilitate workshops on study skills, time management, and stress reduction techniques.

• Orientation and Recruitment:

Manage the planning and execution of new student orientation sessions to ensure a smooth transition into the Lab School environment.

Coordinates events that support the growth of Explore@RC students into a collegial environment.

• Program Development and Evaluation:

Design, implement, and evaluate student success initiatives tailored to the needs of 10th-12th graders.

Use data and feedback to improve support programs continuously.

Prepare reports on program outcomes and student performance trends.

• Cultural and Social Support:

Facilitate peer mentoring programs and extracurricular activities that build leadership and collaboration skills.

Address behavioral and social challenges through targeted intervention and support.

• Curriculum Development Support:

Collaborate with the Executive Director to support the developing and ongoing refinement of the Lab School curriculum to meet the needs of Roanoke College and partnering school divisions.

Provide insights based on student performance data and feedback to help shape effective, innovative instructional strategies and materials.

• Governing Board Support:

Assist the Executive Director in preparing reports, presentations, and documentation for the governing board.

Serve as a liaison to provide relevant updates on student success initiatives, program developments, and curricular advancements to board members.

Support the coordination of board meetings and ensure that decisions align with the school’s strategic goals.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities :

• Bachelor’s degree in education or educational studies.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders in a start-up environment.
• Experience working with high school students.
• Experience in a lab or alternative school setting.
• Prior experience managing orientation programs and supporting student recruitment initiatives.
• Experience working with governing boards and grant-funded work.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to analyze student data and use insights to drive interventions.
• Familiarity with college workplace setting and academic support strategies.
• Familiarity with K-12 structures, rules, and policies.
• Empathetic, patient, and adaptable to working with minors.
• Proficient in using educational technology, student information systems, and data analysis tools.\
• Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and schedules.
